About
Slot Tactics reads AU pokies through maths, bonus terms, and variance. We show the working, we check current bonus terms, and we don’t sell placement.
When we profile a slot for Australian players, we start with the producer RTP. We compare it against community-tracked samples. Then we work through variance pulled from the spec sheet, feature EV, bonus-buy maths, and the bankroll size you actually need to outlast the dry stretches.
Two editors do the work, and each one has a different job.
- Mark Henderson runs the analyst desk. Specs, paytable, RTP by AU-facing casino, the way each feature actually pays. Numbers first, no sales pitch.
- Dave Holloway is the floor side. Western Sydney pokies rooms, 15 years of them. Dave takes the numbers and writes the steps you’d follow at the machine: when to push, when to cut, where the punter sitting next to you keeps going wrong.
Mark handles the sheet. Dave brings it back to the floor.
How we research
Every slot review opens with a research file. We start with the producer page as the canonical source. Then we check aggregators, tracked RTP samples (Slot Tracker, AskGamblers, SlotCatalog), and any reliable references we can verify. Affiliate copy is not a source for us. If two of those references disagree on RTP or hit rate, the review names the disagreement instead of picking the prettier number.
The source notes anchor every numerical claim on the page. We don’t invent bust probabilities. We won’t dress up made-up sessions as evidence. RTP figures get quoted only when we can show where they came from.
What we don’t do
- No “best slot ever” superlatives, and no “guaranteed winning systems”. Slots are negative-EV. The job is to manage the bankroll while waiting for a feature, not to promise a flip.
- Placement is not for sale, and affiliate links don’t decide the ranking. We name AU-facing casinos when their terms actually move the EV: a bonus max-bet cap that breaks the wagering plan, or a casino running a lower RTP build of the same title. We don’t name them because the link pays.
- No stock-photo author personas pretending to be a real punter. Mark and Dave are editorial personas, and we say so on their own pages. Behind them, the source notes and the maths are doing the actual work.

The site is written for Australian readers. The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 (IGA) is the rulebook for AU-facing operators here, and we’ll name a licence whenever it ends up shaping how a casino actually handles a payout.
